Reception Center Visitors Baelo Claudia, Ensenada Bologna in Tarifa (Cadiz)
A building on the way to the Roman city of Baelo Claudia. Building a compact unit, elongated in the direction EO and supported on the slope that descends gently toward the inlet of Bologna.
The provision in the range of parking related to the road of Buitreras along with the way that the visitor has to travel to reach the archaeological site advises the longitudinal disposition of the building that will understand it as more of a stretch this long journey.
One piece Horadada for five yards, each for different body and nature. Big yard, trees and closed the first of them and open two of its sides, like a terrace open to the sea the last of the tour. Between the two, three yards minor equipped with natural lighting, ventilation and views to the units that constitute the agenda for the internal use of the institution.
This provision allows the facades would not be exposed to the direction of prevailing winds, release or west, and that all the holes to open courtyards which in turn look to the facades, while avoiding the scale domestic and inconvenient to the building Public. Target volumes, built in concrete, pierced by patios with the powerful presence of long walls closed proposing an image in tune with the buildings along the rural countryside of Andalusia.
The program of the building is basically splits into two main areas: the public area or spread (permanent and temporary exhibitions, hall, cabinet teaching, etc.) and the internal area that comprise the areas of conservation, research and administration. The program also incorporates a cafe-restaurant linked to access the building and connected, therefore, with the two major areas.
The building, compact unit, is built on a single piece lengthwise oriented in the direction EO supported by the gentle slope that descends into the inlet of Bologna.
The program is conducted at two levels so that the building will offer this point in its facade to the sea, while the north facade will have a single plant due to the steepness of the terrain.
This provision in the territory will offer a number of advantages over other forms of settlement. First, the facades are not exposed to the direction of prevailing winds, release or west. Secondly, this is the most natural and economic information on a plot of land with a slope of 10%. Moreover, the provision in the range of car parks, linked to the road to Las Buitreras and our building, along with the way that the visitor has to go down to the archaeological site, advises a provision longitudinal, as if the building formed as part of the route, as if the building became a stretch of the route over to the Roman city, reducing therefore, the long distance that separates the visitor parking beside the road.
One piece of 120 meters in length and an average width of 20 m, which breaks in her head, in a gesture to come looking for access road, while drawing on its geometry willingness to adapt to the topography of the land .
One piece Horadada for six yards, each having different characteristics and dimensions will allow us to successfully solve the complex needs of the program uses. Big yard, trees and closed the first of them and open courtyard in two of its sides, terrace open to the landscape, the last of the tour. It is, therefore, to keep the windows open directly to the exterior facade, ensuring that all the holes open to patios, courtyards, which in turn can now open up to facades, but obviously the voids will be less exposed, given the extreme conditions climate of the place where the building is constructed.
On the other hand the opening of these voids yards to the building facades confers a higher abstraction, closer to its institutional status, thereby avoiding the presence of a more domestic scale than their small size, no doubt, will give it.
Facade continuous, low altitude, passing by shafts of shadow in which light will play an active role in its definition deliberately. Target volumes, built in concrete left to the eye, broken by courtyards, with the powerful presence of long closed to the outside walls and suggesting an image close to the episodic construction that punctuate the area of Andalusia.
Regarding its distribution organization, the building tries to fit the program uses, separating the public area of the internal area of the center but at the same time facilitate the contacts necessary for smooth operation.
The first courtyard, patio access, and large trees, contains the cafeteria-restaurant
That could operate autonomously, as well as control, public toilets and cloakrooms. From this patio is accessible to both areas, reaching the public area at the end of the trail.
A journey filled, open only to the mountain leads the visitor from the yard of access to an area covered vestibular, but this time looking to the sea, as a covered terrace. Area of bifurcation. Access to the exhibition area for visitors who began the expedition, but at the same time instead of returning the arrival of the Roman city and is heading to the beach.
The exhibition area is divided into three sub: the entrance, which could reach the store, with a height of a plant, the permanent exhibition room accessed through a gateway, with a height of nine double meters, and at the lower level, and illuminated by high windows open to the North, and finally the space for temporary exhibitions, neutral and versatile, illuminated through a small courtyard. Since this area is accessible to the assembly hall (multipurpose) and to the Cabinet pedagogical, as suggested by the program uses and needs of the Center.
This space is a starting point for the access road to the archaeological site, a trail that starts in a little high terrace on the ground, outer space but still building and ending at the gate of the Roman city located on the main route mapped out from east to west.
Regarding the organization of the internal area of the Receiving Unit, the conservation area with its workshops and warehouses as well as the access road to the same machine and the park is located on the lower level. The areas of administration and research occupy the top floor of the building from the cota access parking.
The public parking for bikes, cars and buses is a half-slope so that the public pedestrian access can be done at high elevation and the access road of the private Center occurs from the lower elevation. Small containment walls, made of stone with a dry board, draw the range enabling the organization to resolve the parking and the slope of the plot.
This provision will allow parking cars and buses are not visible neither from the ruins of the Roman city or from the beach. Umbrellas horizontal Cañiza could cover the parking area, so that only those planes weightless on the ground, and the dry stone walls, like those who roam the mountains of La Plata and San Bartolome, would account for the presence of the carpark.
Ultimately, a low building height, to avoid a sharp impact on the splendid scenery of the inlet of Bologna, but that does not give up asserting his nuanced presence on the ground, because it is an institutional building, reception center and entrance gate of the Citadel of Baelo-Claudia. Mediterranean architecture and dense, compact and closed, open only to their backyards, which recognizes the attributes of the place and want to respond in a manner consistent with its delicate implantation.
